Roger Federer Profile
Roger Federer is all set to continue his record breaking run in grand slam tournaments at the 2010 Australian Open. Having reclaimed the world number one ranking, Federer will look to avenge his loss to Rafael Nadal in the final of the 2009 tournament. After losing the US Open final to Juan Martin del Potro, Federer will want to prove his continued potency on hard courts by lifting the Norman Brookes trophy for the fourth time in his career.
It goes without saying that Roger Federer is an acknowledged master of the game of tennis. He is considered to be one of the fastest movers in the game and has a forehand motion described as a "great liquid whip". He generates incredible topspin with his forehand, allowing him to open up cross-court angles while still hitting the ball with pace. He is excellent on the baseline and his serve is very difficult to read. His only weakness is said to be his one-handed backhand, but he has worked hard on improving the stroke.
Federer's greatest attribute has been his cool, controlled playing style. However the cracks began to show at the French Open 2007 final, Federer lost his concentration and became emotional on court. The end result was that he lost the match to Rafael Nadal. This scenario was replayed at the 2009 Australian Open final, and again at the 2009 US Open final - with Federer losing his trademark cool on both occasions.
