Roddick blasts into quarterfinals

Andy Roddick surged into the quarterfinals of the 2009 Australian Open on Sunday, showing the kind of form that took him to the US Open title in 2003.

Roddick reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open by defeating Spain's Tommy Robredo 7-5, 6-1, 6-3. The American survived a tough first set before dominating his opponent in the final two sets to take the victory.

"I didn't start off great, and then I thought the second and third sets were a lot better," Roddick said after the match. "Which is, I guess, the direction you want to go in."

Roddick's powerful service game was at its best as he blasted 13 aces past Robredo and won over 80% of his first serve points. Roddick will also take comfort in the fact that he wasn't broken once during the match. The American has dropped only one set at the tournament.

"I feel like I always come off the court having played pretty well," Roddicksaid of his performances to date at the 2009 Australian Open.
