Men's Singles

A rampant Andre Agassi destroyed German Rainer Schuetter in three sets, to claim his fourth Australian Open Men's Singles crown. (6-2, 6-2, 6-1) The second seed American was a strong favourite going into the final, but the way he outgunned the hapless Schuetter had the crowds baying for more. The 32-year-old's destruction of his opponent took just 76 minutes, and the victory gave Agassi his 8th Slam win. Agassi had Schuettler reeling when he broke his serve eight times for the win.

Women's Singles

A tearful Serena Williams, joined illustrious company with her fourth Grand slam win over her sister Venus, at the 2003 Australian Open. She joins Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, Margaret Court and Maureen Connolly as the only women to have achieved this feat. Although she was not in the greatest of form, Serena managed to elevate her game in the tensely fought three-set final.

"I think right now she's just probably a little mentally tougher out there than I was today", said Venus, who became the first player to lose four straight Grand Slam finals.

Men's Doubles

The French duo of Fabrice Santoro and Michael Llodra caused a major upset at the 2003 Men's Doubles finals when they defeated top seeds, Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor of Canada. The eighth seeded Frenchmen, proved too strong for their opponents and took the first and last sets with ease. The duo's 2003 Australian Open results were as follows: 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. It was the French combination's first major win and they made history by becoming the first French team to win the doubles at the Australian Open since 1928!

Women's Doubles

Venus and Serena Williams battled the heat of Melbourne to take the women's doubles final after being a set down against opponents, Pascual and Suarez. Their 2003 Australian Open results were 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. With temperatures reaching a steamy 37 degrees centigrade, officials opted to close the roof of the Rod Laver Arena. Top seeds for the doubles, the Williams sister turned up the heat and easily won the last 2 sets. The sisters have already won all 4 Grand Slam doubles events and have not been beaten for the past 16 months.

Mixed Doubles

46-year-old Martina Navratilova became the oldest player to win a Grand Slam title, when she and partner, Indian Leander Paes defeated Australian Todd Woodbridge and his playing partner, Greek, Eleni Daniildou with ease, in straight sets. (6-4, 7-5) "This goes beyond any wildest dream" she said when she claimed her 57th major title and the only title which has eluded her during her career. She has now completed a sweep of titles at all the Slams and was given a standing ovation by the excited crowd.
